Hey Onrec Did I Miss Something?

A couple of months ago I noticed that at this past Onrec they were having an awards ceremony for a couple of categories. They provided the application information online and I proceeded to fill it all out and submit it to them. I know they received it as I got a return-receipt for it. I never heard back from them if I was being considered a finalist or if I was even in consideration at all for our new Recruitment Search Engine Marketing Application. I consistently checked back on their website to see if anything was mentioned or any updates were put on there but to no avail.

The Onrec conference came and went and still no call or email from them about our submission. As I’m glancing at my news section on Netvibes I noticed that they announced the winners on their website specifically for the “Game Changing Technology” category for which we applied. I’m not bitter that we didn’t win as you have to shoot to score I just don’t understand why they would call for nominations and then never promote who was selected or give any feedback.

Time is money and I like to think that I respect people’s time and I would hope people respect my time. In this case I took the time out to submit our information and was never given the courtesy of “hey your product sucks but thanks for making us aware of it” at least.

So I ask again….Onrec did I miss something?

Hi Jason:

I noticed your post this morning. I apologize and take responsibility for any confusion. While Onrec has been doing a very successful awards program in the UK for years, this was (for me) the first time I coordinated an awards program, and the first USA Onrec awards. You are absolutely right – we should have communicated to all nominations about their status. Just so you know, and so that the process was transparent: we received nominations for the various categories. We created a group of judges in the US and UK and scored each nomination. From this result, we selected the winners for each category. We announced these winners at the cocktail reception in Chicago at www.Onrec.com/Expo2008

Each category had a winner announced at the event. In addition, since this was the first year of awards in the USA, and because our show is the global event with the role of percolating recruiting innovation, there was a group of organizations that scored above a threshold, and I felt they should receive honorable recognition for our category of Game Changing Recruiting Technology. In addition to all the discussions about the evolving landscape in our industry that happened a few weeks ago in Chicago at www.Onrec.com/Expo2008 we will additionally be producing a story in Online Recruitment Magazine later this year.

I hope this clarifies the process this year. Again, sorry for any confusion. I plan to build upon this awards program each year. It would be great to get you involved in the event next year on the content side if you are interested. There is a great post-show video here about the unique niche that Onrec is serving: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_AMZuHQgp0

I am very proud about the event we just ran, and I look forward to constant evolution and improvement so it is valuable to everyone involved. Thanks again for your post and highlighting the issue.
